How to fix high ping on PC
A PC can have fast download speed and still suffer high latency. Start by measuring ping, jitter and packet loss, then isolate the cause.
Fix high ping by separating local PC problems from the wider connection.
Run RaceMyNet first, then compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi, close bandwidth-heavy apps and test more than one destination. If only one game is affected, the route or game server may be the issue rather than Windows itself.
Test before changing settings
Record your ping, jitter and packet loss with the PC otherwise idle. A baseline makes it much easier to tell whether a change actually helped.
Try Ethernet
A cable removes most wireless interference and signal variation. If ping becomes stable on Ethernet, focus on Wi-Fi rather than Windows tweaks.
Pause background traffic
Cloud sync, game downloads, Windows Update, streaming and uploads can create queues that raise latency. Pause them and test again.
Check the game region
Automatic matchmaking can place you on a distant server. Choose the nearest sensible region where the game allows it.
Update the network adapter
Install the current driver from the PC, motherboard or adapter manufacturer when Windows has an old or unstable network driver.
Compare different times
If latency is consistently worse in busy evening periods, congestion or routing outside the PC may be contributing.
